History of Armthorpe Elmfield Band

Armthorpe Elmfield Band was founded by Haydn Griffiths MBE in 1964 from 2 players and 6 instruments. The band was formed to give everyone a chance to become involved in music particularly children.

The band soon became affiliated to the youth service and at one time the junior section of the band had over fifty members.

From humble beginnings the band grew as a result of one man’s lifelong dedication, vision and passion for teaching. Haydn introduced brass music to hundreds of students over the years, many of whom still play for bands, or are still active members of his beloved Armthorpe Elmfield Band to this day.

Armthorpe Elmfield have gone from strength to strength throughout their years, with a string of successes.
